The widespread application of soft rubber brushes in medical care, oral hygiene, industrial cleaning, and personal care fields is primarily due to the unique physicochemical properties of their main materials. The "softness" of a soft rubber brush is not a singular concept, but a comprehensive characteristic achieved through formulation and process control of various polymer materials. Different materials possess advantages in elasticity, temperature resistance, biocompatibility, and surface adaptability, directly impacting the product's application scenarios and lifespan.

Currently, the main materials for soft rubber brushes include thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), silicone rubber, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and natural latex-modified polymers. Among these, TPE, with its excellent flexibility, recyclability, and wide range of adjustable hardness, has become a commonly used choice that balances cost and performance. These materials exhibit a soft, rubber-like feel at room temperature. They can be plasticized and processed when heated, facilitating the one-piece molding of complex brush shapes. They also possess good weather resistance and anti-aging properties, making them suitable for manufacturing oral or skin care brushes that require repeated bending.

Silicone is another soft rubber material highly favored in the high-end care field. Medical-grade and food-grade silicone have extremely high biocompatibility, are non-toxic and odorless, chemically stable, resistant to high-temperature steam sterilization, and do not readily react with acidic or alkaline media. Therefore, they are commonly used in oral hygiene, wound care, and infant products. Silicone surfaces can be processed into smooth or microporous structures, facilitating cleaning while reducing residue adsorption. Their resilience is long-lasting, and they are not easily deformed or hardened even with prolonged and repeated use.

TPU excels in abrasion resistance and mechanical strength, combining the flexibility of rubber with the strength of engineering plastics. It is suitable for industrial cleaning or applications requiring high friction. While maintaining a soft touch, this material can resist certain oil and solvent corrosion, extending the service life of brushes in harsh environments. Furthermore, TPU offers good colorability, making it easy to differentiate hardness or functional levels by color.

Natural latex-modified polymers are commonly found in early-care brushes, offering excellent softness and skin-friendliness. However, due to the risk of latex protein allergies in some individuals and relatively insufficient oil and aging resistance, they are now mostly used in specific low-allergy requirements or disposable applications.

When selecting materials, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the chemical compatibility of the usage environment, temperature range, cleaning and disinfection methods, and the sensitivity of the contact object. For example, medical-grade silicone or hypoallergenic TPE are preferred for oral and skin-contact applications; industrial cleaning requires a focus on the abrasion resistance and solvent resistance of TPU; and lower-cost natural latex-modified materials can be considered for disposable or short-term use. At the same time, the safety of the material should comply with relevant regulations and standards, including biocompatibility testing, extractable limits, and microbial control requirements, to ensure that it does not cause harm to users or workpieces in different applications.

In general, the main materials of soft rubber brushes each have their own characteristics, and their performance differences determine the product's applicability and lifespan. A deep understanding of the physical and chemical properties of various materials and their compatibility with working conditions is the foundation for accurate material selection, optimized design, and improved performance. It also provides a scientific basis for promoting high-quality soft rubber brushes across industries.
